Description

Travel the iconic Going-to-the-Sun Road while experiencing the dramatic eastern landscapes of Glacier National Park and the Blackfeet Nation on this full-day journey led by a knowledgeable local Blackfeet guide. The operator’s longest and most popular tour combines sweeping high plains, culturally significant lands, alpine valleys, and towering mountain peaks.

Choose convenient pickup from Glacier Park Lodge in East Glacier Park Village or Glacier Peaks Hotel in Browning. From there, relax in comfortable, air-conditioned transportation with large viewing windows as you travel across the Blackfeet Reservation toward Glacier National Park. Depending on road conditions and the day’s route, the journey from East Glacier may follow Highway 2 or the scenic Looking Glass Highway.

After a brief stop at the St. Mary Visitor Center for restrooms and photos, you’ll begin traveling along Going-to-the-Sun Road beside the upper reaches of St. Mary Lake. Throughout the day, your guide will share stories and cultural interpretation related to the Blackfeet Nation, the area’s history, wildlife, ecology, and remarkable natural landscape. Questions are always encouraged.

Along the way, the tour may include several short scenic stops at highlights such as Two Dog Flats, Wild Goose Island, Sun Point, Sunrift Gorge, Jackson Glacier Overlook, Lunch Creek, and Big Bend. Once Going-to-the-Sun Road is fully open, Logan Pass and the Continental Divide are included, with approximately 20–30 minutes to enjoy the Visitor Center area, alpine scenery, Continental Divide sign, and views stretching across both sides of the park.

When time and road conditions allow, the tour may continue down the west side of the Continental Divide toward Big Bend and the Weeping Wall before returning to Logan Pass. The exact scenic stops will vary based on traffic, construction, wildlife activity, weather, and group size.

After descending the east side of Going-to-the-Sun Road, enjoy approximately one hour for lunch in the St. Mary area. Lunch is not included, allowing you to choose and purchase your own meal. The return journey continues across the open plains of the Blackfeet Reservation toward Browning. When time permits, the tour may also stop at the highly regarded Museum of the Plains Indian. Museum admission is not included and is paid directly at the museum.

With extensive time along Going-to-the-Sun Road and interpretation from a local Blackfeet guide, this tour offers a memorable look at the scenery, wildlife, history, and culture of Glacier’s east side.

Early-season tours: From June 1 through approximately late June, portions of Going-to-the-Sun Road may remain closed while snow removal continues in the park’s higher elevations. Tours will travel as far as the road is open and may be shorter or include less time along Going-to-the-Sun Road. Additional scenic stops are typically added when possible. Full road access and Logan Pass cannot be guaranteed until Going-to-the-Sun Road has officially opened for the season.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a Glacier National Park Site Pass?

Yes, every group will need a Glacier National Park Site Pass. You can purchase your pass online at recreation.gov. We recommend purchasing a single 7-day Private Vehicle Pass (1 per group); this pass may also be used for entry with your own vehicle or car rental. America the Beautiful Passes are also accepted.

Will we see all of Going-to-the-Sun Road?

While this tour covers many of the major highlights and must-see locations, it does not cover the full length of Going-to-the-Sun Road. If time allows, the tour may travel down the west side from Logan Pass to the scenic overlook at Big Bend and the Weeping Wall.

Will we see wildlife?

Wildlife viewing is always a possibility, but it's never guaranteed. Spotting wildlife in Glacier National Park can be less common than expected, and traveling in groups generally keeps wildlife further away. Be sure to pack a good pair of binoculars and keep an eye on the mountain slopes for mountain goats and bighorn sheep in Logan Pass!

Is there any hiking?

There is no proper guided hike, but you will have time to explore short nature trails in Logan Pass. If you're interested in more time in Logan Pass, check out this Guided Hike to Hidden Lake.

Is Going-to-the-Sun Road fully open in June?

Due to the seasonal opening of Going-to-the-Sun Road, the tour will only travel as far as the road is open prior to it being fully open to vehicle traffic. If you would like to learn more about the current status of GTTS, check current conditions HERE before your trip.

Are there restrooms?

There is no restroom on the bus, but there are frequent stops and most locations have a restroom.

Is lunch included?

No, lunch is not offered on this tour

Where is the meeting point?

This tour begins at 8 AM in East Glacier Park at the Glacier Park Lodge, followed by pick up at the Glacier Peaks Hotel in Browning at 8:30 AM
