Description
Escape into the wild heart of Western Montana on this full-day journey through the Swan Valley, one of the region's richest and most scenic wildlife corridors. Departing Missoula, we travel about an hour north into a landscape of forested peaks, clear alpine lakes, and sprawling wetlands — prime habitat for the valley's diverse wildlife.
Over the course of the day, we'll hike easy, mostly flat trails around a couple of the valley's standout lakes, watching for wildlife while learning to identify the plants, animals, and geology along the way. Your guide brings the Swan Valley's story to life, weaving in the geology, ecology, and natural history behind the dramatic peaks and glacially carved scenery surrounding us. Binoculars and spotting scopes are provided so the group can scan lakes, wetlands, forests, and mountainsides for elk, moose, eagles, and more.
With roughly seven hours from departure to return, there's plenty of time to slow down, breathe in the mountain air, and truly experience one of Montana's most spectacular valleys — no rushing required.
Keep in mind that Swan Valley weather can shift quickly: sunshine can turn to rain, wind, or cooler temperatures with little notice, so pack layers and sturdy footwear. Routes and stops may be adjusted for weather, trail conditions, or wildlife activity, so your guide can make the most of the day.
