Description

Montana's rivers are waiting for you to discover with a guided fly fishing trip to rivers outside of Missoula, Montana. If you’re staying in Whitefish or Kalispell and want to elevate your fishing experience, this guided trip to the Missoula area is perfect for seasoned anglers or those interested in seeing more of Big Sky Country.

You’ll meet a friendly, experienced guide early, load into a drift boat or raft, and travel to clear, productive water where trout are plentiful, and the landscape feels wild and quiet. Guides bring local knowledge, current river conditions, and well-tied flies, so beginners learn the basics quickly and more experienced anglers get tips to improve their casts and presentations.

The rivers offer a mix of calm runs, riffles, and pocket water that make for fun dry-fly action and steady chances for cutthroat, rainbow, and brown trout. Along the way, you may see bald eagles, osprey, deer, and other wildlife, and the mountain and forest views make the whole day feel like an escape.

Trips are flexible and can be tailored to your skill level and time—guides handle gear, knots, and safety, and they’ll teach river etiquette so you can relax and focus on fishing and the scenery. Whether you want a relaxed float with steady action, a guided lesson to sharpen your skills, or a family-friendly outing, this Missoula-area fly-fishing trip delivers great water, expert guides, and a memorable time on the river.

Blackfoot River

The Blackfoot River is a classic Montana river known for its wild, scenic beauty and excellent trout fishing. It offers a mix of calm runs, pocket water, and occasional whitewater, so guided trips help you find the best spots and read the river. Peak dry-fly action comes in late spring and summer during salmonfly and stonefly hatches, and fall often delivers quiet, productive fishing with big bug activity.

Clark Fork River

The Clark Fork River near Missoula is a wide, scenic river known for steady trout fishing and long, float-friendly runs. It holds healthy populations of westslope cutthroat, rainbow, and brown trout, and offers great dry-fly and nymphing opportunities through spring, summer, and fall. Guides often fish stretches downstream of Missoula toward Paradise for easy access, consistent water, and strong hatches.

Missouri River

The iconic Missouri River is a big, open-water destination prized for powerful trout and large hatches that favor dry-fly fishing. It offers long, float-friendly runs with steady populations of brown and rainbow trout, plus spectacular bug activity in summer that draws anglers from across Montana. Guides choose sections based on flow and hatch timing to match your skill level and maximize chances for big fish.
