Fully customized to your preference and how you'd like to spend your day on the lake, this tour is the perfect relaxed adventure for any visit to northwest Montana.
Beginning in Somers Bay south of Kalispell, you'll meet your captain and step aboard your private charter for a scenic cruise on Flathead Lake. As your guide narrates stories of local history and geology, you’ll pass by the Painted Rocks cliffs—home to over 200 petroglyphs created between 200 and 1,500 years ago. A loop around Wild Horse Island’s shoreline offers chances to spot otters, bald eagles, mule deer, Bighorn sheep, and the island’s famed wild horses.
After enjoying the views of the island, we'll arrive at a landing point, and shortly after the boat is docked, you step ashore to explore at your own pace. Spend your time hiking the small loop trails while looking for wildlife or relaxing by the water for an island beach day.
How you spend your time is fully up to you: wander through forested paths, plan a beach day for a swim in secluded coves, pack a full lunch for an amazing picnic, or simply observe wildlife and the local views. Your guide remains close by on the water, ready to retrieve you on your schedule. While guides don’t accompany you onto land, they provide clear tips on the best areas to visit and wildlife to watch.
After your island exploration, reconnect with the boat for a relaxing cruise back to Somers Bay. Water and light snacks are waiting onboard, but you're welcome to bring your own beverages or additional food as well. Throughout, the atmosphere is easygoing and family-friendly—children and leashed pets are welcome. Whether you’re hiking slowly, snapping photos of wildlife, or sitting quietly in a meadow, this private four-hour experience offers flexibility, natural beauty, and local insight.
