Description
Glide through Montana’s largest freshwater lake toward Wild Horse Island, home to free-roaming mustangs and Bighorn sheep. Hear stories of the Flathead Tribe and its ancient rock art as you pass the Painted Rocks cliffs. Dock, hike, swim, or linger—all at your own pace before your ride heads back.
You'll step aboard your private, dependable 26′ Weldcraft Maverick at Somers Boat Ramp for a serene cruise on Flathead Lake. As your guide narrates stories of local history and geology, you’ll pass by the Painted Rocks cliffs—home to over 200 petroglyphs created between 200 and 1,500 years ago. A loop around Wild Horse Island’s shoreline offers chances to spot otters, bald eagles, mule deer, Bighorn sheep, and the island’s famed wild horses.
After circline the island, we'll arrive to a landing point, the boat pulls in and you step ashore to explore on your own, walking the trails and looking for wildlife. Wander along forested paths, swim in secluded coves, enjoy a picnic, or simply observe wildlife. Your guide remains close by on the water, ready to retrieve you on your schedule. While guides don’t accompany you onto land, they provide clear tips on the best areas to visit and wildlife to watch.
After your island exploration, reconnect with the boat for a relaxing cruise back to Somers. Water and light snacks are waiting onboard and you are welcome to BYO bevies or additional food as well. Throughout, the atmosphere is easygoing and family friendly—children and leashed pets are welcome. Whether you’re hiking slowly, snapping photos of wildlife, or sitting quietly in a meadow, this private four-hour experience offers flexibility, natural beauty, and local insight without pressure or structure.
