Full-Day Going-to-the-Sun Road & East Glacier Tour
Description
Experience the dramatic landscapes of Glacier's east side on this full-day tour, led by a local Blackfeet guide. This journey showcases everything from the sweeping plains of 'Big Sky Country' to towering mountain peaks of Glacier National Park, enriching your visit with sacred stories and captivating natural history.
This comprehensive 7 to 9-hour tour begins with convenient pickups at Glacier Park Lodge or Glacier Peaks Hotel. Travel through native reservation lands toward the east entrance of Going-to-the-Sun Road in St. Mary, navigating either Highway 2 or the scenic byway of Looking Glass Highway.
First, stop at the St. Mary Visitor Center before beginning your journey along the legendary Going-to-the-Sun Road. Depending on the season, early visitors (June 1 - late June/early July) may only access parts of the road. However, even with limited access, breathtaking views await you throughout each turn.
The adventure continues through St. Mary Valley, where you'll see stunning mountain peaks along upper St. Mary Lake, culminating at Logan Pass for your longest stop and a true highlight of the day. If time permits, you can venture to Big Bend and the Weeping Wall for additional scenic vistas. After absorbing the panoramic views and alpine air, you’ll enjoy a relaxing lunch break in the St. Mary area.
On the return trip towards Browning, traverse the open lands of the Blackfeet Nation. Throughout the tour, your local guide shares stories steeped in the history, ecology, and spirit of this remarkable region, transforming each viewpoint into a living narrative. This tour is more than just a narrated experience; it's a personal invitation to connect with the rich culture and breathtaking beauty of one of America’s most stunning landscapes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a Going-to-the-Sun Road Vehicle Reservation?
No, this tour does NOT require a timed entry reservation for Going-to-the-Sun Road.
Do I need a Glacier National Park Site Pass?
Yes, every group will need a Glacier National Park Site Pass. You can purchase your pass online at recreation.gov. We recommend purchasing a single 7-day Private Vehicle Pass (1 per group); this pass may also be used for entry with your own vehicle or car rental. America the Beautiful Passes are also accepted.
Will we see all of Going-to-the-Sun Road?
While this tour covers many of the major highlights and must-see locations, it does not cover the full length of Going-to-the-Sun Road. If time allows, the tour may travel down the west side from Logan Pass to the scenic overlook at Big Bend and the Weeping Wall.
Will we see wildlife?
Wildlife viewing is always a possibility, but it's never guaranteed. Spotting wildlife in Glacier National Park can be less common than expected, and traveling in groups generally keeps wildlife further away. Be sure to pack a good pair of binoculars and keep an eye on the mountain slopes for mountain goats and bighorn sheep in Logan Pass!
Is there any hiking?
There is no proper guided hike, but you will have time to explore short nature trails in Logan Pass. If you're interested in more time in Logan Pass, check out this Guided Hike to Hidden Lake.
Is Going-to-the-Sun Road fully open in June?
Due to the seasonal opening of Going-to-the-Sun Road, the tour will only travel as far as the road is open prior to it being fully open to vehicle traffic. If you would like to learn more about the current status of GTTS, check current conditions HERE before your trip.
