Frequently Asked Questions

How big are the fish in the Flathead River?
The fish caught typically range from 8 to 16 inches. There are definitely some very nice sized fish in this river. If you're looking to get into really big trout consider a trip with us down to fish the Missouri River for 1-2 days.
Can a 3rd person ride along in the boat?
It is strongly preferred to have a maximum of 2 guests on the boat with the guide. You may add-on a 3rd person in the boat in checkout for an additional fee. Maximum of 2 people fishing at a time. The 3rd person ride-along is not guaranteed and you MUST email or call us about this request in advance of your tour to confirm. In the event we cannot accommodate a 3rd person, your additional fee will be refunded.
How long is a "half-day" fly fishing trip?
A half-day fly fishing float on the Flathead is 4 hours. Full-day floats are 8 hours round trip.
Are we guaranteed to catch fish on the Flathead?
Nope, that would be called "catching" not "fishing"! With that said, this river is full of fish that will bend your rod and great guides that will increase your chances of success. Most boats come in smelling fishy, but no guarantees as weather, bugs and temperatures vary everyday.
Can I bring my own rod and gear?
You bet! While your guide will have all the equipment and flies needed to have a great time, you are more than welcome to bring your own.
Which part of the Flathead River will we fish?
The half day fly fishing trip on the Flathead River takes place on one of a couple different sections between Teakettle bridge in Columbia Falls and the Old Steel Bridge in Kalispell. Your guide will meet you, drop a car at the takeout and take you to the ideal put-in for the day based on what is fishing best.
Do we float in a drift boat or a raft?
Most of the time your trip will be done in a hard-sided drift boat designed for fly fishing. Some of our trips on other sections of the river may be done on a raft with a fishing frame to access more difficult to reach parts of the river.
